My practice is not limited to real estate law. However, I find that the purchase or sale
of residential real estate can be a stressful process. That stress, in part comes from
not knowing the ultimate cost of the process. Whether you are a purchaser or a seller
knowing what costs to expect can alleviate some of the stress.
Although no one can estimate all the costs with complete accuracy until the closing itself,
what I attempted to do is design a worksheet which anticipates most of the possible costs. As
the closing progresses and more exact figures are available you can come closer to approximating
the actual bottom line.
The real estate calculator formulates a reasonably accurate estimate of the costs to buy or sell
residential property in New York City. It is more comprehensive than the Good Faith Estimate
provided by most lending institutions. It takes into account more of the typical costs. However,
it contains many assumptions and estimates, and therefore should only be used as a guide.
